Thank God for Gun Free Zones!

 This from Channel 5 NBC Chicago (emphasis mine):

 Seven people were killed and at least 41 others were shot in violence that plagued Chicago over Father's Day weekend.

If this does not stun you, I don’t know what will. Unless you live in Chicago and are sufficiently desensitized to this level of violence, you should be absolutely outraged by this. By my count, there were almost 50 shootings in one weekend alone in the windy city. Let me say that again 50 separate shootings in ONE WEEKEND! Let’s try to put that into perspective; go to your local paper’s website and find the police blotter for the past weekend and see if the burg you live in can even come close to this number. Go ahead I’ll wait.

<insert Jeopardy music here>

Ok now that you are back if your city is even close to Chicago’s numbers; please leave it in the comments section so I can check it out. My guess is that there are very few places in the entire world that can compete with Chicago much less within the US.

But this begs the question: Why Chicago? My guess is that it is because the democratically controlled legislature has, over the past few decades, thought they couldn’t trust the fine citizens in their state with fire arms so they simply outlawed them. The thinking was that if the entire state were a gun free zone everyone would be happy as a pig in poop, right? Well not according to Reuters’ 2012 numbers:

Wowsers that’s a lot of killi’n in a gun-free zone! Just think how many more there would have been had the geniuses not banned guns! Look, all kidding aside the citizens of Illinois have effectively given up their second amendment right as they continue to elect officials that have no regard for the safety of the electorate. That being said it does look like there is hope (emphasis mine):

If Governor Pat Quinn signs the bill passed last week in the state legislature, Illinois will no longer be the only state in the American Republic without a legal provision for state residents to carry concealed firearms.
Quinn has still not signed the bill and there is no indication which way he will go. However, some prosecutors in the state have decided that regardless of Quinn’s decision they will no longer prosecute law-abiding citizens who exorcize their second amendment rights.

It will be interesting to see what Quinn does especially as the body count keeps pilling up in Chicago. Maybe someone should remind Quinn and the elected knuckleheads in Chicago the definition of insanity, that is: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Exit question: How many more folks are going to have to die before the citizens have the ability to defend themselves in these "gun-free"cities?
