OK the name of this Blog "6079 Smith, W." is a
reference to Winston Smith, the protagonist in George Orewell's classic 1984.
The premise is, as you all know, Big Brother is always watching. This
from the Washington Post: (emphasis mine)
The National Security Agency and the FBI are
tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading U.S. Internet
companies, extracting audio, video, photographs, e-mails, documents and
connection logs that enable analysts to track a person’s movements and contacts
over time.
That is a remarkable figure in an agency that
measures annual intake in the trillions of communications. It is all the more
striking because the NSA, whose lawful
mission is foreign intelligence, is reaching deep inside the machinery of
American companies that host hundreds of millions of American-held accounts on
American soil.
This is way way way beyond the scope of the initial purpose and
intent of the original initiative. What the government is now telling us is
that ALL of us are potential enemies of the state and there is nowhere you can
hide that we will not find you.
Think about it for just a minute. You are sitting in your
house reading this blog and there is someone from the government that knows,
not only that you are reading my nefarious blog, but that you may call someone
and tell them about it. Your entire web and call history can be crossed
referenced and is now public record for anyone in the government to see. And,
God forbid, the government doesn’t like your viewing habits and can label you an
enemy of the state and sic the IRS on you. I’m telling you guys this is one
step away from the night
of broken glass.
