The Pope and the Rabbi

(Editors Note: I shamelessly stole this from Rev. Paul over at Way up North)

Every time a new Pope is elected, there are many rituals in accordance with tradition, but, there is one tradition that very few people know about.

Shortly after a new Pope is enthroned, the Chief Rabbi of Rome seeks an audience. He is shown into the Pope's presence, whereupon he presents the Pope with a silver tray bearing a velvet cushion. On top of the cushion is an ancient, shriveled envelope. The Pope symbolically stretches out his arm in a gesture of rejection. The Chief Rabbi then retires, taking the envelope with him and does not return until the next Pope is elected.

A new Pope's reign was shortly followed by a new Chief Rabbi. He was intrigued by this ritual and that its origins were unknown to him. He instructed the best scholars of the Vatican to research it, but they came up with nothing.

When the time came and the Chief Rabbi was shown into his presence, they faithfully enacted the ritual rejection but, as the Chief Rabbi turned to leave, the Pope called him back.

"My brother," the Pope whispered, "I must confess that we Catholics are ignorant of the meaning of this ritual enacted for centuries between us and you, the representative of the Jewish people. I have to ask you, what is it all about?"

Oh the I-RON-Y

Debbie Downer is at it again. She is questioning Romney on why he didn't 'repudiate' Rush Limbaugh's recent comments on Sandra Fluke. This from the Washington Post:

The chair of the Democratic National Committee has called out GOP presidential front-runner Mitt Romney for not condemning comments by radio personality Rush Limbaugh about a law student who testified on Capitol Hill in support of the administration's health care law.

"The bottom line is, the leading candidate on the Republican side for president couldn't even bring himself to call Rush Limbaugh's comments outrageous and call him out and ask him to apologize," Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the DNC leader, said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday.

Obamacare and the broccoli defense
By Jazz Shaw at Hot Air:

Handing the federal government the power to regulate a lack of economic activity – as opposed to their recognized power to regulate some actual activity for the public good – opens up a door to a hallway which would seem to stretch to infinity. Can the President, in fact, force us to eat our peas as opposed to saying it in a rhetorical fashion?

The unintentional irony of Obama's new plan to address high gas prices
By Bruce McQuain at Q and O

For 25 years Democrats have been telling us that drilling for more oil isn't the answer to high gas prices because it would take "3 to 10 years" to see the beneficial effects of increased drilling.  And, consequently, they've done everything in their power to prevent more drilling for oil and gas.
[But] As Kate B Hicks reports, the desperate President has a new plan.  But, irony of ironies, you'll have to wait 13 years to reap the benefits:

Andrew Breitbart, 1969-2012
By Iowahawk

Plenty will be written about Andrew Breitbart in the next few days, some flattering, some not. As for me, I will drink two beers in his honor tonight, and remember him the way he was last December in Venice - a big, lovable, random, generous, fearless, patriotic grinning goofball surrounded by his family, basking in the coolness of it all.
One of the best tributes to AB I've read.

If You Ain't Got No Condoms, Take Your Broke Ass Home
Via Misfit Politics

"Oh, I'm in a committed relationship. I don't like condoms. Condoms fail a lot. I want the pill." Then get the pill. Your student clinic, the free clinic, and even your family doctor can provide you with a prescription for the pill at such low cost, you'll only have to skip a couple of Starbucks runs to afford it. How an educated young woman could not know this is of profound concern to me.

Keep your Womb out of my Wallet!

I saw this article by Carol Shea Porter over on the website Blue Hampshire Called: The GOP Birth Control Patrol. The article itself is the usual navel-gazing alarmist drivel you expect with any left leaning feminist: 'GOP wants to control women's access to contraceptives':

Their Republican leaders' intrusion into matters that are none of their or the government's business just doesn't seem real. Would one of their top two candidates for President really rail against contraception?

This framing of the argument just exemplifies how entitled these people think they are. To barrow Obama's rhetorical tick - "Let me be clear" - No one is denying access to contraceptives. The problem we conservatives have is simply who pays for it. Porter and her ilk on one hand say it should be paid for by the evil insurance companies (which of course means that it will be their customers who actually pay for it), and then on the other she laments how the GOP wants to 'get into her business'.

Gerard's take on: Kute Korner Krack Dealers Are Back

Who let them out? Why are they everywhere? On the corners, by the entrances to supermarkets, at the crossings, and all over the place. They swoop into the neighborhood in massive SUVs driven by classic MILFs. They pull in, tumble out giggling, and yank their card tables and their boxes of contraband from the back. Then they set up their offerings in stacks, and slap crude handmade signs with a heavy helping of glitter on the tables. Then they don their gang colors and get to work on you.
They are the most ruthless retail agents known to man. They are virtually irresistable in their peddling of their wares. They do it with cutting edge cute, and they have no scruples concerning your desperate attempt to diet away the winter flab.

Three Occupy Oakland protesters suspected of stealing an Oakland woman's wallet and making offensive remarks about her perceived sexuality were charged Friday with robbery and committing a hate crime, both felonies, authorities said.

It's time to fix the Bill of Rights (A bit of satire from Frank J. Fleming)

In fact, the Bill of Rights doesn't guarantee anything people need — not food, shelter or even broadband internet. The only things it mentions are a few nebulous rights of absolutely no market value. It's rather pointless, really.
Why was the Bill of Rights thought out so poorly? It turns out it was written by these "Founding Fathers" long, long ago, in a much more primitive time. I'm pretty sure their first meeting to draft it was broken up by a woolly mammoth attack.

No Fluke at all

Her Beau Geste will not go unnoticed or unrewarded. Something tells me Ms. Fluke's first job after graduation will relieve her permanently of the nagging fear that she will not be able to pay for the contraceptive of her choice. Sandra Fluke will thus join the long line of those like our President himself, who chose to enter the charmed precincts of Belmont through the vocation of promulgating the lies necessary to sustain progressive politics.
